Publicizing Your Site

A site is of little use if no one can find it. You will need to get it indexed (spidered) by search engines and, ideally, linked to by other similar-minded sites, such as Bahaindex.com. It also helps to set up a Google and Yahoo Sitemap. Search engine strategies
  • The first place you'll need to submit your site to is Bahaindex.com.
  • It is also wise to let the Bahá`ís around the world know of your web site by sending an announcement to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  • For Google and Yahoo, you should set up an XML sitemap. You can have one automatically generated at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/. If you're using a content management system, there may be a plugin that will generate an accurate sitemap for you - in the case of Joomla you could use either the Joomap or Xmap components. After you've generated your sitemap and know its URL, you'll need to go to Google Sitemaps and Yahoo! Sitemaps to submit them. It is important to remember that these two search engines will use these sitemaps to index your site regularly, so if you add or remove pages, you need to update your XML sitemap file accordingly. If you are using an automatically generated sitemap (i.e. constantly updated by your content management system), you don't need to worry about this.
  • Your web host's control panel may have a feature that lets you submit your site to a number of search engines at once, but if not there are various free announcement services that will automatically add your site to most search engines out there. Give Dream Submit a go - it will add your site to about 50 search engines all at once, and it is pretty fast as well.
  • You should also set your META keywords and description tags. To use these, copy and paste the following inside your <head></head> tag and modify for your own use. Your page would have the following structure:
